Second Lieutenant James F Watson, Oregon, Service Number O-748855, flew P-51 Mustangs for the 382nd Fighter Squadron, 363rd Fighter Group, 9th Air Force. He failed to return (FTR) from escorting bombers to Berlin. The group climbed through severe weather on instruments. Watson's fighter, P-51 #43-6975, was last seen, 5 miles east of Naze, England, during the climb. Presumed to have crashed into English Channel. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.
