Charles Delbert Watrous died on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 in Murrieta, California. He and his wife, Donna, have resided in the community of Palmilla on the Greens in Menifee, California since March 2001.
Charles was born on June 16, 1926 in Meriden, Connecticut and was the youngest of five children of Arthur John and Gertha Mae Watrous. All five children to include four sons and one daughter were raised on a family farm and worked hard together with their parents to survive the Great Depression. At the beginning of World War II, the three older brothers of Charles enlisted in the United States Armed Forces to serve our country.
Charles earned his degree in business administration at Nichols College, Dudley, Mass., graduating in 1949 with highest honors as class valedictorian. During 1952, he enlisted in the United States Army and attended Officer Candidate Armored School at Fort Knox, Kentucky where he earned his commission as an officer.
After military service, Charles worked in marketing and field sales for several major national manufacturers which often involved extensive travel and his first job assignment was on the West Coast with the Stanley Works. Also based on the West Coast, his other employers included Borg Warner, General Electric, and FMC.
From 1986 to 2000, Charles became involved with his wife, Donna, in the ownership and operation of a family business serving in the travel industry and known as Lake Mission Viejo Travel, Mission Viejo, California. After sale of this travel agency, Charles and Donna moved to their present residence in Menifee.
Charles and Donna met in San Francisco when Donna was employed by United Airlines. They were married on May 18, 1963 in Sausalito, California. They have one son, Jeffrey Charles Watrous, who resides with his wife in Laguna Hills, California. The three older brothers of Charles have passed away and his surviving sister, Fran Baudner, lives in Longboat Key, Florida.
Burial services with Military Honors performed by the United States Army will be at 12:15PM, Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, California.
