Charles E. Watkins, Jr. passed away on Friday, April 3, 2009, in Asheville, North Carolina.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 6, at Westminster Gardens cemetery.

Charles was born on November 11, 1919, in Asheville, N.C., to the late Charles and Nellie Watkins. He was employed for 42 years with AT&T until his retirement.

He was involved as a Boy Scout leader with the General Greene Council and Troop 205 at First Baptist Church of Greensboro for many years. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the Army in the African and European Theatre from 1942 to 1945. Charles had lived in Charlotte for the past 32 years.

Charles was preceded in death by wife, Frances H. Watkins; his parents; brothers, James, Paul, Donald and Bobby Watkins, and sister, Vivian Green.

He is survived by his sons, Charles E. Watkins, III and wife, Becky, and James K. Watkins; grandchildren, Kim Green and husband, Ben, and Jon Watkins and Caitlin Watkins; brother, Mark Watkins and wife, Thelma; sisters, Betty Daniels, Nancy Penland and Joan Watkins; and many cousins, nephews and nieces who will greatly miss him.
