The funeral for Vesteen Draper, 76, of 363 Fuller St., Axton, who died Jan. 18, 2010, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Sharon Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Axton with the Rev. Larry Penn officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church for a half-hour before the service Saturday and other times at the home of Keisha Morrison at 300 Taylor Road, Axton.
Draper was born May 28, 1933, to Lafayette Watkins and Veola Carter Watkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mozielle Harris; and four brothers, Melvin Watkins, Thomas Watkins, Lafayette Jr. Watkins and Noye Watkins.
She attended Sharon Grove School and was a member of New Sharon Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
She was employed at Nationwide Homes in Martinsville for a number of years and had worked at Pulaski Furniture and American Furniture Co.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Chefo Payne Draper of Martinsville; five daughters, Evelyn Hairston of Worthington, Ohio, Denise Harris of Axton, Yvonne Foddrell of Stuart, and Selma J. Millner and Connie Clark, both of Martinsville; three sons, Leon Draper, Don Travis Draper and Dennis Draper, all of Martinsville; two sisters, Bernice Easley of Hampton and Barbara Easley of Axton; two brothers, Nathaniel Watkins of Preston and James Alvin Watkins of Martinsville; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Stanfield-Miller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
