Birth: Sep. 24, 1904
Death: May 7, 2004

Ilene Faye Shemwell, daughter of Charles and Rosetta Walters Waterworth, was born September 24, 1904, near Competition, Missouri. She departed this life Friday, May 7, 2004, in Christian Healthcare North, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-nine years, seven months, and thirteen days.
On July 3, 1930, she was united in marriage to Barrett T. Shemwell, and together they shared forty-seven years before his passing on November 12, 1977.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, William, Dewey, and Clyde Waterworth; and four sisters, Blanche French, Grace Hough, Marie Hough, and Hazel Shamel.
Faye is survived by a number of nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in the Competition community, and attended Fair Knob School. Her father passed away when she was ten years old, and she and most of her brothers and sisters had to help with the farm work. Her first job was working at a store in Competition, and then later was a waitress at the old Laclede Hotel and at the Ha Ha Tonka Castle. After she and Barrett were married, they made their home in Texas County, where they owned and operated a general store in Upton, Missouri. Faye worked as a sales clerk and also did the bookwork for the business for about five years. They then moved to Evening Shade, Missouri, and purchased a store and home. They operated the store and Post Office for eighteen years, and also owned some rental properties. After selling the store, she and Barrett continued to live in Evening Shade for another twenty years. In 1978, Faye moved into Lebanon and made her home, so she would be closer to her family.
Faye made her profession of faith in Christ early in her life and was a member of the Palace Union Church, where she was secretary and treasurer for fifteen years. She and Barrett were also instrumental in starting the perpetual care fund for the Porter Chapel Cemetery in 1963, and Faye served as secretary and treasurer until 1997.
In her spare time she enjoyed growing beautiful flowers and vegetables in her garden and also loved to travel. She was a lady with many talents and had even constructed wooden furniture pieces and other items in her younger years. She could be adventurous at times and had ridden a motorcycle and a personal watercraft after she was in her nineties.
Faye will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all of her family and many friends. We will cherish the wonderful memories she created for us in our hearts forever.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2004, in the Holman-Howe Chapel. Burial will be in the the Competition Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6 - 8:00 under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon, Missouri.
