Latta, Oct. 27. - Mrs. Annie M. Allen, widow of the late Elmore Allen, died at the home of her son, C. J. Allen in Latta, Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Allen moved from the Brownsville section of Marlboro County to Latta about 15 years ago and have lived here until the time of their deaths. Mr. Allen died in 1915 and was greatly missed by his church and the town. Mrs. Allen, before her marriage, was a Miss Waters of Charleston, where she met her husband, then a young soldier in the Confederate war. Miss Waters was a refugee in this section during the bombardment of Charleston, which she and her husband renewed their acquaintance and were shortly afterwards married. At the time of her death she was nearly 77 years old and was a faithful member of the Baptist church at this place. She leaves the following children to mourn her death: Mrs. J. T. Galloway of Marion, Miss Edna, Paul W., Charlie J. and Walker E. of Latta, Albert S. of Columbia, Sam L. of York, Ala., Bristow and Mrs. W. P. Reynolds of Dothan, Ala., and A. L. of Columbus, Ga., ten in all who are living. The funeral services were conducted at the home by the Rev. W. C. Allen of Dillon, a friend and relative of the family, and the interment was made at Magnolia cemetery at Latta Wednesday afternoon. There were many beautiful floral offerings. Her six stalwart sons were her pallbearers.
