Chico Record, Saturday Morning, May 19, 1923, pg 5 col 5: C.M. Waterman, Butte Pioneer, Passes Away. Dies at Age of 80; Lived at Magalia for Many Years. Charles Murray Waterman, 80, passed away late yesterday afternoon at the Landis Sanitarium in Chico Vecino, after an illness of several months.

The deceased was a graduate of Cornell University, with the class of 1876. David Starr Jordan, president emeritus of Stanford University, was a classmate of the aged man.

Waterman was born at Pleasant River, Nova Scotia. He came to California, when a young man, settling in the San Joaquin valley. Later he moved to Magalia where he resided until ten years ago, when he moved to Chico.

Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:30 from the residence of Ted March at 1087 Park avenue.

Interment will be made in the Chico cemetery. Fetters and Williams, funeral directors, will have charge of the rites.
