KEYSER, W.Va. Betty Ann Rachel Washington, 70, of Keyser, formerly of Piedmont, W.Va., died on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Potomac Valley Hospital in Keyser.

She was born Dec. 5, 1941 at Medley, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Ashby and Dorothy (Bruce) Beckwith. Three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death as well as three grandsons.

Betty was an active member of the First Church of God in Christ in Piedmont and was a member of the church choir. She worked at the Celanese Corp for many years and then at Potomac State College in Keyser until her retirement. She was a former member of the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW in Piedmont and Keyser.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Washington; one daughter, Melissa Coaxum and Henry of Harrisonburg, Va.; two sons, Christopher Taylor and Eva of New Creek, W.Va. and Angelo Taylor and Marsha of Keyser; and her stepdaughter, Shana Washington of Piedmont. She is also survived by her grandchildren, C.A. Taylor, Latia Washington, Christopher D. Taylor, Jamar Taylor, Jamaal Coaxum and Destiny White; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Zepeda, Lorain Ohio; two brothers, Daniel Beckwith of Burlington, W.Va. and David Beckwith, New Creek; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Piedmont at 11 a.m. with Bishop Henderson Wheeler officiating, assisted by Minister Christopher Taylor and the Rev. Darnell Allen.

Interment will follow at Potomac Memorial Gardens in Keyser.

The family request that memorials for Betty be directed to the First Church of God in Christ, 32 Water St. Piedmont, WV 26750.
