Birth: May 23, 1905
West Virginia, USA
Death: Jun. 10, 2011
West Virginia, USA

On June 10, 2011, Orga Washington Davis began her well-deserved and promised rest by going through Heaven's open doors. She fought the good fight, finished the course and kept the faith. Her parents, Luther and Mary Hodges Washington, were waiting to welcome her, as well as her younger brother, Billy Lee Washington; and granddaughter, Terri Lynn Davis. Orga was a lifelong resident of Putnam County, having been born there on May 23, 1905. She attended Marshall and Morris Harvey colleges, but never actually earned a degree. Teaching on a provisional certificate, Orga taught at Scott Depot, Hodges Graded, and Oriole schools before her final position at Winfield Elementary, where she retired. After retirement, she continued working in the classroom as a substitute until the age of 75, when she was no longer permitted to work due to her age. She was a life member of the West Virginia Association of Retired Teachers. She was the oldest living member of the First Baptist Church of Hurricane until her death. The church and her family honored her with a celebration of life on May 14, 2005, to commemorate her centennial birthday. Orga's faith was primary in her life, with her family coming in a close second. She was also blessed with some loving neighbors on High School Avenue in Hurricane who are angels on earth. Those neighbors affectionately called her Miss Orgie and watched over her when her family was not in Hurricane. Left to cherish her memory are her children: son, Gene (Cindy) of Bridgeport; and daughter, Bonnie (Wayne) Craig of Columbus, Ohio. and Lexington, Kentucky. Also left behind are eight grandchildren who love their Mammaw dearly, Jean (Bill) Crum of Charleston, Dwight (Sherry) Davis of Bridgeport, Dwane Davis of Clarksburg, Mark Davis of Charlotte, North Carolina, Cindy Wade of Bridgeport, Joilyn (J.T.) Bush of Bridgeport, Suzanne (Paul) Herb of Pastaskala, Ohio, and Christi (Keith) Teutsch of Blacklick, Ohio. Eleven great-grandchildren remain to cherish memories of Mimmaw, Mommaw or Granny, Michael, Jonathan and Phillip Crum, Nathaniel Kyle Davis, Hannah Wade, Jordyn and Jacob Bush, Azilee Davis, and Taylor, Haylee and Lauren Teutsch. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Sue Washington and her children, Mary, William and Kent. A service to celebrate her life will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 13, at the First Baptist Church of Hurricane with Pastor Jim McGehee officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Hurricane fund for the preschool playground. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, friend and neighbor remains our treasure to cherish until we meet again.
