Obituary

Ms. Diane Washington was born on February 27, 1960 in Russellville, Kentucky. She was the first child of Donald R. Washington and Frances L. Scales. On Friday, May 6,2016, after a courageous four-year battle with breast cancer, Diane passed away peacefully at her home in Goodlettsville, Tennessee surrounded by loving family members.

Diane accepted Christ at an early age at King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee and through her Christian faith became a member of The Victory Church of Nashville, Tennessee. She served faithfully as a committee member on the Keep Empowering Youth (KEY) program, the Greeters ministry and pastoral aid ministry of The Victory Church.

Diane loved shopping, traveling, working with students and having fun with her slew of devoted friends including, Valerie Neal-Miller. Diane touched the lives of many people with her smile, placing the needs of others before her own. She loved everyone she came in contact with and always kept a smile on her face. Diane loved going to church and truly lived to help others.

Diane was educated in the Davidson County public schools and graduated from North High School in Nashville, Tennessee. After graduation, she was employed as a clerk for the Department of Disability Services by the State of Tennessee for over 30 years. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts from Tennessee State University and worked in the Financial Aid Department. In 2012, Ms. Washington began working at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee where she remained until her death.

Diane was a devoted mother, daughter, sister and aunt known for her kind spirit. Her greatest accomplishment, as she would always say, was her daughter Ashle'e. She will certainly be missed by all that knew her.

She is preceded in death by grandparents, Geneva and James Kendrick. Those left to cherish her memory daughter, Ashle'e Washington-King of Nashville, Tennessee; her mother, Frances Scales and stepfather James Scales of Nashville, Tennessee; her father, Donald (Janet) Washington of New Albany, Indiana; brothers, Donald (Ravon) Washington and Darwin (Chasity) Washington; sisters, Jennifer Robinson, Wanda (Fitzgerald) Gilbert and Tonja Sessoms; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; a devoted niece, Franchay Robinson; many godchildren she shared a special bond with her in her line of work including: Chinedu Nwankwoala and Allen Price.
