Austin Warren, 81, of Afton, died Thursday, Jan 24, 2002, at the Care Center in Afton.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan 28, at the Afton 3rd Ward Chapel. Burial was in the Afton Cemetery.
Austin was born Nov 15, 1920 in Freedom, the sixth child of Ivan Walter warren and Annie (Dolly) Stumpp. He went to elementary school in Freedom through eighth grade. He was drafted into the U.S. Army at the age of 21 and served as a cannoneer. He was shipped to Germany shortly before the Germans surrendered. He had some hearing impairment as a result of his military service.
He married Margene Hale on Sept 6, 1946 in the Idaho Falls Temple. He was an avid outdoorsman, particularly loving hunting and fishing. He and Margene bought a farm north of Afton shortly after their marriage and remained there throughout his life. He raised pigs, chickens and of cpirse dairy cattle.
His fifth grand teacher interested him in taxidermy and it became his avocation and later his vocation. He successfully developed an active taxidermy business. Not everyone is able to do what they love most as their job but Austin loved to learn and taught himself the art and science of taxidermy. He became famous because of his imagination and creativity. He mounted everything from mice to two headed calves. He invented the rearwolf and mounted thousands of jackalopes. He loved to mount birds of every kind.
He is survived by his wife Margene, five daughters, Della
Jean Stewart of Laramie, Helen Robertson of Cody, Donna Dana of Boise, Lois Ann Vaughan of Houston, Jana Lee McDaniel of Logan; by 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers Elmo, Delbert and calvin and two sisters Bessie Call and Rhea Higley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, four brothers and one grandson.
