Mrs. Gaylen F. Anderson, 72, Correctionville, member of the Iowa Basketball Hall of Fame, died January 9, 1977, at her home in her sleep of an apparent heart attack. Services were at 2 p.m. January 12 at the Barker Funeral Home with Dr. James Poulson of the Storm Lake United Methodist church officiating. Burial was in the Correctionville Cemetery. Mrs. Anderson, the former Doris Ward, was born March 5, 1904, in Woodbury County and graduated from Correctionville High School in 1921. She played forward on the Correctionville girls' basketball team which won the first state tournament in 1920 and was inducted into the Iowa Basketball Hall of Fame at the Iowa Girls State Basketball Tournament in Des Moines last March. She married Mr. Anderson June 21, 1929, in Correctionville. The couple owned and operated F.H. Anderson and Son Chevrolet for many years before their retirement about five years ago. She was a member of Stella Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, for more than fifty years. Survivors include the widower, a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Barbara) Ewoldt of Storm Lake, a brother, Boyd Ward of Correctionville, two sisters, Mrs. Lois Meskimen of Correctionville and Mrs. Robert (Betty) Brink of San Diego California, and a grandson.
