Josiah Ward was the son of Daniel and Prussia (Gifford) Ward, and the husband of Mary Ann (Towle) Ward. According to the family story, Josiah and his family left Gardiner, Maine and came to Limestone by oxen and wagon first coming thru Canada at Limestone Siding, then into Limestone where he settled on what was to become Ward Road. He was a farmer in Limestone. In politics he was a Republican. He was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church, of the Good Templars and was lodge deputy in Limestone.
