Mabel Walton Gladwin, the daughter of Moses A. and Carrie Bestwick Walton, was born in Sabetha. She died April 10, 1982, in Hemet, California.
Mabel was a graduate of Sabetha High School and attended Platt Business College in St. Joseph, Missouri. Later she went to Southern California where she made her home.
On January 27, 1945, she was united in marriage to Graham Gladwin in San Francisco, California.
Prior to retirement, Mrs. Gladwin was an executive secretary and office management administrator. She worked in the Hollywood area for more than 30 years.
In the mid 70's Mabel began to do oil painting. Some of her works, landscapes, seascapes and floral paintings, remain in her home on display so that natural beauty in her name can be remembered.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Ivan, and a sister, Lila Martsolf. Survivors include her husband, Graham; two sisters, Pansy Fowler, and Lillian Rooney of Sabetha; three brothers, Lawrence (Dewey) Walton of Pineville, Missouri, Kenneth Walton of Colton, Oregon, and Dale Walton of Augusta, Kansas.
Mabel was a member of the Fountain Avenue Baptist Church in Hollywood.
The Rev. Leland B. Jones of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd officiated at funeral services held at Desert Lawn Park in Calimesa, Calif.
