Jennie Lu Ella Walton Rawls, 67, of Weatherford departed to meet our Lord on Friday, July 17, 2009.
Service: 2 p.m. Sunday at Leon River Cowboy Church in Ranger followed by a graveside service in Evergreen Cemetery. Special thanks to Pastor Paul Howie of Leon River Cowboy Church for officiating and Brooke Piearce of Weatherford for providing music for the service and Joel Boone of Flowers For All Occasions.
Born Aug. 24, 1941, to Edgar and La Nita Davis Walton in San Antonio, Jennie was the fourth of six siblings. Jennie grew up in Ranger and married her high school sweetheart, the late Jack Allen Rawls Jr., on Jan. 19, 1961. Jack and Jennie were the model of true and sincere love through 47 years of marriage until Jack's passing last October.
Jennie began her career as a devoted homemaker in Austin, followed by almost five years in Sugar Land. From there the couple spent 20 years in Belton. After Jack's retirement from Texas Instruments, Jack and Jennie retired to Weatherford.
Jennie was dedicated in her faith and contributed in church activities for many years. Her fresh baked unleavened bread was served for communion at the Presbyterian Church and she enjoyed bringing dishes to share at church events. Jennie was also a devout follower of the Kenneth Copeland Ministries and delighted in the Believers' Conventions. Jennie knew her Bible and could quote scriptures from memory. She was an exemplary and humble Christian.
Jennie Rawls was a remarkable seamstress, cook, cake decorator and gardener. She loved to snow ski, play golf, and go camping. She was an enthusiastic sports fan, and faithfully cheered on the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars, and the Texas Longhorns. Whether she had tickets or watched the games from home, she never missed a game and had a passion for sports.
Jennie Rawls gave her life to her faith and her family and was an excellent wife and mother. She will always be remembered for her kind heart, her bold personality, her strength, and her delightful smile. The world is a better place for having been blessed with her presence.
Her immediate family includes: mother-in-law, Reba Rawls; sons, Jack Allen Rawls III and his wife, Arlene, Thomas Lee Rawls and his wife, Amay; brothers, Hal Walton and his wife, Mary, Tom Walton and his wife, Shirley; sisters, Martha Ervin and her husband, Tom, Peggy King and her husband, Lee; grandchildren, Michael Rawls and his wife, Kelly, Mindy Gonzales and her husband, Jason, Alexandria Rawls, McKenna Rawls and Madeline Camp; great-grandchild, Kiley Gonzales; and her beloved poodle, Crystal Star.
