Final rites for Lester C. Walton, age 89, rural Coatesville, were October 17 at the Wingler Funeral Home, Coatesville. He died October 14 in the Roudebush West 10th Street Veterans Administration Hospital, Indianapolis. Rev. Frank Bunn and Rev. Frank Rodgers officiated. Military rites were conducted in the Coatesville Cemetery.
Born June 1, 1897, he was a son of Charles and Mary Alice (Runnells) Walton. A Navy veteran of World War I, he was a retired farmer. He had formerly had a milk route for the Hornaday Milk Co., Lebanon. Mr. Walton was a member of the First Baptist Church of Amo. He also belonged to the Danville World War I Barracks.
He was the widower of Velma (Lasley) Walton. Survivors are a son, Keith Walton of rural Coatesville; a daughter, Evelyn Shrake of Mooresville; sisters, Elizabeth Hurst of Greencastle and Minnie Snapp of Brazil; a brother, Forest of Oregon; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One grandson preceded.
Coatesville Area Deaths: Lester Walton died last Tuesday. His funeral was Friday. He, along with Wendell Elrod, were the Grand Marshalls in the Harvest Festival Parade. They were the two World War I veterans, and they rode in an open Army jeep. He is a loss to the community.
