BETTY I. BAKER
Betty I. Baker, 79, a resident of the Hillsboro community, died Thursday morning, September 21, 2006 at the Evergreen Hillsboro Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hillsboro.
A Celebration of Betty's Life will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2006 at 3:30 P.M. at the Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home, 2308 Pacific Avenue in Forest Grove with the Reverend Michael McCall, pastor of the Hillsboro Presbyterian Church, officiating. Graveside Services will be held on Monday, September 25, 2006 at 12:30 P.M. at the Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 S.E. Mt. Scott Blvd. in Portland, Oregon.
Family and friends are invited to attend a reception immediately following the chapel service, to be held in the Fellowship Room of the funeral home.
BETTY ILEAN BAKER was born November 28, 1926 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late William and Zada (McGee) Wallis. She was raised and received her education in the Tulsa community. Following her high school graduation she attended and graduated from Arizona State University, in Tempe, Arizona with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education.
She was united in marriage to Herbert Allen "Herb" Baker on December 28, 1945 in Columbus, Kansas.
They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary this past December. Following their marriage, they resided in in several communities where she taught elementary education, including Hamilton, Ohio; Indiana, Ohio; Phoenix, Arizona; Palm Desert, California; Beaumont, California and Hemet, California. She retired from teaching in 1976. In 1987 they moved to Oregon, settling in the Hillsboro community, where they have resided for nearly twenty years.
Her special interests included painting with oils, watercolors and black and white pen ink, especially barns and lighthouses. Betty was always a student taking classes throughout her life, including music
and art. While living in Hemet, California, she was a member of the local Art Association and she exhibited her work throughout southern California.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Allen Lee Baker; her brother, Hubert Wallis; and her two sisters, Pauline Drew and Bonnie Dodd.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert A. "Herb" Baker, of the family home in Hillsboro, Oregon; her daughter, Connie Ilean Baker Hansen, of Redmond, Oregon; and her sister, Frankie Keener, of Locust Grove, Oklahoma.
Also surviving is her grand-daughter, Keeley Ilean Hansen, of Redmond, Oregon; and several nieces and nephews, including Robbie Guerreca and Dwayne Lizar, of Murietta, California; Linda and Curtis Warrick, of Temecula, California; Darrell Lee and Carolyn Lewis, of Anchorage, Alaska; and Terry and Brenda Beccerra, of Camas, Washington; Brian and Jacinta Baker , of Salem, Oregon.
The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to the Providence St. Vincent Hospice, 1235 N.E. 47th Street, Suite 148, Portland, Oregon 97213, in her memory.
