Crawfordsville Daily Journal November 3, 1910 (1:7)

Special to the Journal

Hillsboro, Nov. 3 --- A. C. Walker, a well-known and prominent farmer residing six miles residing six miles southeast of here, met a horrible death yesterday afternoon when he was run over and his life crushed out by a heavily loaded manure spreader.

Mr. Walker throughout the day had been hauling manure to his fields and driving three colts. He was making his last trip to the field for the day about 4 o'clock and was driving down a lane when the young animals became frightened and started to run. He could not control them --- but in his effort to do so was pulled down in front of the heavily loaded machine and two wheels of it passed over his abdomen, literally crushing the life out of him. His son Earl discovered the runaway horses and was hurrying to the assistance of his father when he found him lying unconscious in the lane. The left leg was mashed into a jelly but no bones were broken. Some kind of a spike struck him directly in the spine, penetrating two or three inches. The back of his head also showed that he had struck the ground with violence. The son picked his fatally injured parent up and carried him to the house and Dr. E. G. Bunnell, of Hillsboro, and Dr. G. A. Caplinger, of Wallace, were called but the man was past medical assistance when they arrived and he died within two hours.

Mr. Walker was 60 years of age and one of Fountain County's most highly respected citizens.

He leaves a wife, four grown sons and two daughters.

This is the second death in the Walker family in four months. Mr. Walker's mother, Mrs. Adeline Walker, dropping dead August 2.

The funeral services will take place Saturday afternoon at Ingersoll Chapel Christian Church, of which congregation he was an honored member and the leading elder, and will be conducted by Rev. P. J. Lough of Waynetown. The interment will take place at the Waynetown cemetery.
