Mother Mamie Lee Thomas, 85, died Wednesday, March 31, 2010. She was born October 22, 1924 in Morgan County to the late Tommie Walker and Mary L. Jackson. She grew up in Morgan County. She was preceded in death by a sister, Cora Bell; two brothers, Buddy T. Spark Walker, a granddaughter, Carla Barber, a great-grandson, Ramon Moore and a son, Arthur L. Hunter.
She was united in marriage to George Thomas Sr. for 53 years. He preceded her in death in 1999. Mrs. Thomas joined McHughfs Hill Baptist Church in 1940 and served there until her health failed. She enjoyed singing in the Morgan County Senior Citizens Choir; her hobby was fishing. She had a special love for all of her grandchildren.
She leaves beautiful memories in the hearts of her nine children, Ozie Davenport, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest (Odessa) Wright, Laura M. Moore, Mr. and Mrs. George (Dogbama) Thomas Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Clifford (Katie) Barber, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey (Linda) Thomas, Shirley Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Willie (Doris) Chapman, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mack (Ann) Thomas; 26 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Hattie Walker; niece Sarah Helen and several cousins and friends.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 5 at Low Mosley Chapel Baptist Church with Pastor Roy Thomas officiating assisted by Pastor G. C. Brown. Interment was in Low Mosley Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were her grandsons and flower bearers were her granddaughters.
Jones and Turner Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements.
