Services for Hattie Belle Sledge, 90, Tyler, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Lloyd James Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Elwood B. Stetson officiating.
Burial will be in the Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery. Ms. Sledge died April 5, 2013, in Tyler.
Hattie Belle was born on Nov. 23, 1922, in Bullard to the late Jess Shain Walker Sr. and Mamie Laura Ingram Walker. Upon graduation from East Texas State Teachers College, at the age of 19, she loved and educated second and third graders in the Tyler Independent School District for 42 years. After retirement, she continued to celebrate every holiday and accent her home with beautiful decorations. She loved being a hostess and was the utmost genteel Southern Belle.
She attended Grace Community Church in Tyler for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Gordon C. Sledge; parents; brothers, Ingram Walker and Jess S. Walker; and great-grandson, Michael Thomas Young Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Ingrid Young and husband Bobby, of Tyler; sister-in-law, Evelyn Walker Doughty and husband Leo, of Tyler; grandchildren, Kelly Young McGinnis, of Tunica, Miss., and Michael Young and wife Constance, of Hernando, Miss.; great-grandchildren, McKinley Grace Young and Mason Parker Young, of Hernando, Miss.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Kenny Gauntt, Arnold Phillips, Mark Roberts, Billy Sledge, Kevin Short and Steve Short.
