Samuel Houston Walker was a son of Joseph Walker and Isabella "Ibbie" (Evans) Walker, and husband of Martha Jane (Emberton) Walker. Samuel Houston Walker and Martha Jane Emberton were married December 20, 1866, in Monroe County, Kentucky. They had eleven children: William N. (married Laura Bell Birge in 1910); Katherine A. (married Silas Titus Emberton in 1896); Joseph David (married Cordelia Kittybird Smith in 1892); Thomas Jefferson (married Susan Jane Emberton in 1896); Leona (died young); Isabella "Ibby" (married J. S. "Jeff" Jackson in 1897); Lincoy Mitchell (married Bertha "Bertie" Bartley in 1919); Laura Bell (married Jasper Harmon Bray in 1904; Bertha Houston (married Samuel Bell Flippin Carter in 1908); Martha Mae "Mae" (married William B. "Billy" Coppinger in 1913); and Florence Ethel "Flossie" (married Oscar G. Bushong in 1910).
The death date inscribed on Samuel Houston Walker's gravestone is incorrect, as it was 5 July 1922, with interment at Mount Gilead Cemetery the following day, 6 July 1922.
