Melba Wakefield Spiller
Funeral for Melba Wakefield Spiller, 85, of Decatur will be Friday, April 9, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Buddy Champion officiating.
Graveside service will be held Saturday, April 10, 2004, at 3 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Saraland. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 7:30 at the funeral home. The Mizpah Chapter No. 19, Order of the Eastern Star will confer rites at 7:30.
Mrs. Spiller died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Sept. 13, 1918, in Nauvoo to Dock L. Wakefield and Alice Howell Wakefield. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Irvin Spiller.
Mrs. Spiller was retired from the Alabama Society of the Blind. She was also an active member of the RP foundation. Much of her life was dedicated to working with the children's ministry of First Baptist Church of Chickasaw. During her later years, Mrs. Spiller was a member of First Baptist Church of Decatur. She was also a member of Mizpah Chapter No. 19, Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Judy Spiller of Decatur; one brother, L.J. Wakefield of Birmingham; two sisters, Sarah McCullar of Jasper and Merle Byram of Huntsville; and one granddaughter, Jennifer Spiller of Decatur.
