Marian J. Hankinson, nee Wakefield, 92, quietly passed away Monday, December 13, 2004, at her home in Aurora, Illinois. She was born October 17, 1912, in Redcar (Yorkshire) England, the daughter of Rev. Wilfred and Mary Wakefield. Her family immigrated to this country in 1920 when she was eight years old.She graduated from Yorkville High School (Yorkville) and Copley Hospital School of Nursing (Aurora). It was at Copley that she met her husband, Harry J. Hankinson, who was one of her patients. Marian married Harry in May 1934 in Yorkville, living primarily in Lisle, Illinois, where Harry with his father, Ben and brother, Julius operated Square Deal (later Hankinson Lumber) Lumber Yard.Marian was the church organist at Lisle Congregational Church until shortly after the death of her Harry in 1954. She later became a founding charter member of the DuPage Unitarian Universalist Church in Naperville, where she continued as pianist for several decades. Marian also served on the Board of Education of Lisle Community School District and was involved in the establishment of the new elementary schools, a junior high and high school. She worked at the Lisle Water Company and later Wrigley Gum in Naperville, from which she retired.When she moved to Yorkville, Marian took an active interest in expanding the Yorkville Library and served as a volunteer at the local food pantry. Marian loved music, sewing, canning and reading. She was active in the same bridge club throughout most of her adult life, playing until just a few years ago. Marian maintained friendships made throughout her life going back to elementary and high school. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.Marian is survived by her children, David (Judy) Hankinson of Naperville, Barbara (Terry) Lucas of Bristol and Elizabeth Hankinson of St. Louis, MO; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great- grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Edith Warren and Winifred Chord; and her brothers, Bill and Frank Wakefield.A Memorial Service for Marian will be held Saturday, May 7, 2005 from 10:30 A.M. until 2:30 P.M. at the DuPage Unitarian Church, 4 S. 535 Olde Naperville Rd., Naperville, IL (tel. 630-505-9408). Memorial contributions may be made to UUSC, Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, or one of Marian's favorite organizations, Mother Jones,
