Former Altras resident Ruth W. Avery, 89, passed away at her home in Klamath Falls, Oregon on July 31, 2000. Services for Mrs. Avery will be held at graveside at the Alturas Cemetery on Saturday, August 5, at 10 a.m.

Mrs. Avery lived in Alturas from 1970 until moving to Klamath Falls in 1997. She was very active in the Rebekah Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies auxiliary to Pete Christensen Post 3327.

Born Ruth Wait in Pittsfield, Ohio on August 16, 1910, she was reared in Pittsfield and attended business college in Oberlin, Ohio. She married Arthur Avery in 1935 and the two were able to enjoy a loving and long-lasting marriage, until his passing in 1998. Mrs. Avery was also preceded in death by their infant daughter, June Marie.

She is survived by two daughters Mary Thomas of Kingman, Arizona and Janet Johnson of Oberlin, Ohio, eleven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
