Born December 18, 1912, in Worcester, MA, daughter of the late Gustav and Clara (Boos) Wahlberg, she was raised in Worcester, graduated from Framingham State Teachers College as a dietician.
Verna moved to Manchester during the 1930s and had been a resident of South Windsor since 1956. Verna was a dietician at Waterbury Hospital and Manchester Memorial Hospital during the 1940s and had been employed by the former G. Fox Dept. Store in Hartford for 16 years before retiring.
She was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Manchester, was an avid reader, enjoyed vacationing with her family at Cape Cod and enjoyed family get-togethers.
She is survived by two sons, William W. Braithwaite, Jr. and his wife, Paula of West Willington and Bruce W. Braithwaite and his wife, Linda of South Windsor; a sister, Norma Gagnon of Sterling, MA; three grandchildren, William W. Braithwaite III and his wife, Patty of Storrs, Jennifer Walker and her husband, Andrew of Roswell, GA, and Bruce W. Braithwaite, Jr. of South Windsor; a great-granddaughter, Tori Walker; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Ervet Wahlberg and a sister, Evelyn Hallberg.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 8, 11 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 60 Church Street, Manchester, with burial to follow in the East Cemetery, Manchester.
