Funeral services for Margaret M. Becker, 85, of Creighton will be held Thursday, Feb. 7 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ludger Catholic Church in Creighton. Father Keith Rezac will officiate with burial in St. Ludger Cemetery.
Margaret Mary (Wagner) Becker, the daughter of George and Rose Burkhardt Wagner, was born on December 24, 1922 at the family farm west of Winnetoon, NE. She was baptized on January 24, 1923 at St. Ludger Catholic Church in Creighton.
She attended country grade school, District 24, west of Winnetoon and graduated from St. Ludger Academy in Creighton in 1940.
While attending St. Ludger, she lived with her Uncle Leo and Aunt Rose Wagner, as well as boarded in town. After high school, she attended normal training. Soon after, she lived in Osmond, NE for several years with her brothers, Elmer and Ivan Wagner.
On October 10, 1950, a warm, beautiful, sunny day, she married Vincent Becker of Osmond at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Osmond. For five months they lived in Norfolk, where Vince was in construction with his brother.
On March 1, 1951 they moved to a farm west of Creighton, where they lived their entire married life.
In 1952 Margaret contracted polio during the polio epidemic and was hospitalized for 14 months at St. Joseph's Hospital in Sioux City, IA. Upon returning home, she became a housewife, caring for her husband and young son, Mike. The family continued to grow with the addition of Kaye, Mark and Tim. The last six years of her life, she resided at the Creighton Care Centre in Creighton.
Margaret was a member of St. Ludger Catholic Church, St. Ludger Altar Society and Red Hat Society, while at the Creighton Care Centre. Prior to contracting polio, Margaret loved to dance and attended many dances in the Osmond and Creighton areas. She enjoyed baking bread, crocheting, reading, visiting on the phone and giving her grandchildren driving lessons.
She is survived by her children and their spouses; 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Elmer and husband, Vincent.
