(October 3, 1936 - February 6, 2012)

U.S. Veteran

Services will be at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, Feb. 8) under the direction of Brumback Funeral Home, with pastor Bruce Reed officiating. Graveside services are at 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery Springfield with full military honors. Online condolences can be made at www.brumbackfuneralhome.com.

Mr. Waddle, 75, Stockton, died at Lake Stockton Healthcare Facility following a long illness due to his service-connected disabilities. He was born in Kenedy, Texas, the son of Fred Franklin and Flossie (Walston) Waddle.

He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1956, and re-entered in the U.S. Navy from 1966-1983, when he retired. He served three tours in Vietnam. During his time in the military, he was awarded many medals, including the Presidential Unit Citation, the Navy Unit Commendation, the Reserve Meritorious Unit Citation Gallantry Cross, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Fleet Marine Combat Ops Insignia.

In December 1980, he was presented the Navy and Marine Corps medal for heroism while serving at NSGA, Adak, Alaska during a destructive storm. Mr. Waddle "with complete disregard for his own safety and fully aware of the dangers involved ..." saved the lives of three Marines who were stranded on what was left of the seawall that had been almost destroyed by 40 foot raging seas and wind gusting to more than 60 knots.

Survivors include two sons, Earl Waddle Jr. and Terry A. Waddle; a sister, Linda Parker; a brother, Terry A. Box; and three grandchildren, Matthew, Arron and Alyshia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Aurther who died at three days of age in a car accident.
