Services for Reuben D. Waddell, 70, of Spur, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at First Baptist Church in Spur with Rev. Larry Burton and Terry Rasco officiating. Burial was in Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home of Spur. He died Sunday April 20, 2003, in Crosbyton.
Mr.Waddell was born May 18, 1932, in Dickens County to Reuben A. and Lella Mae Hill Waddell. He graduated from Spur High School in 1949. He married Peggy Jolene Kidd on May 6, 1949, in Dickens County. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean conflict. He was a farmer and rancher. He was honored as the Lone Star Farmer of Texas in 1949 and was involved with the Dickens County Livestock Show for many years. He was a part of the original group that organized what is known today as the Boll Weevil Eradication Program. He was a member of the VFW and the Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of First Baptist Church in Spur.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Robert of Spur; one daughter, Rhea Melton of Spur; one sister and brother-in-law, Jerry and Jim Bowers of Haskell; one granddaughter, Serena Perley of Spur; one grandson, David Melton of Lubbock; and one great-grandson, Reace Perley of Spur.
