Helen Louise Wachter, 91, Auburn, passed away September 23, 2013.Helen was born in Topeka, November 5, 1921, to Paul F. and Adah Rae Parr.
She married Jean Wachter; he survives.
Also surviving are their children, Richard W. Wachter (Maureen) Topeka, and Sherry J. Fisher (Edward), Lebo KS; grandchildren, Shelly Davenport (Rick) Gardner KS, Ronnie G. Wachter (Christine) Chicago IL, Eddie A. Fisher (Michele) Mesa AZ and Heath Fisher, Overland Park KS; her brother, John D. Parr (Pat)Phoenix AZ; plus several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Pauline Duree and Norma Jones.
Helen graduated from Topeka High School in 1940 and attended Washburn University and Clarks School of Business. She retired from Jostens as an Editorial Consultant of 19 years. Helen was a member of the Auburn Presbyterian Church and was President of Topeka Toastmistress Club and belonged to the Topeka Women's Club, Book Club, Melodears, E. H. U. Unit, National Society of Music Clubs, Topeka Arts Guild, Wood Valley Racquet Fitness Center and St. Francis Sports Center.
After they married in 1942, Helen and Jean lived in Brooklyn NY while he was in the US Coast Guard. They returned to Topeka four years later and soon bought a farm and learned to care for the land and animals.
They had two exchange students from South America live with them ten years apart. Later, Helen and Jean went to South America to visit them. They did lots of traveling.
Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS, 66614. Helen's funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Auburn Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are may be made to the ALS Association, sent in care of the funeral home.
