WHITNEY, William Ellsworth

William Ellsworth Whitney was born about 1811 at Penfield (near Rochester), New York, and was the son of Jeremiah Ellsworth Whitney, a native of New England.(Elgin,Ontario GenWeb)

Died at 71 years. (info from Free Baptist Cyclopedia, pub. 1889).

He married Mary Scott, bn NY, sometime before 1834.
He began his christian life in 1832, moved to Canada in 1834, commenced to preach in 1844, and was ordained a Free Will Baptist minister in 1846. He moved to Michigan in 1849, and worked with various churches there.

The 1850 Mich. Census gives their oldest daughter, Lucy, 16, bn NY; William, 14,bn Canada; Martha, 12, Canada; Ferdinand, 10 Canada, and Hanna, 3, bn Canada.

By 1860 Mich. Census, they added J.,10, dau, bn MI; *A(dele),6 bn MI, and G.A.(Georgianna) 3, bn MI.
*A. is Diantha Adele;

In 1880 census, Wm is 68, Mary 64, and a Grandson, Ortis Rundell, age 11.

Wm. E. served as a soldier in the Civil War in the
Mich. 12th Infantry, Co G, in the early part of the war, and re-enlisted in 1864. He lost a limb, but on his return resumed the work of the ministry and was a faithful servant of God.
