William S. (Bill) Wagner, age 75, of Rivers Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, 960 S. Rapids Road, Manitowoc, formerly of 15 S. County Highway S, Cato, entered eternal rest Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 13, 2005 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Reformed United Church with the Rev. Richard Runge officiating with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Bill was born June 17, 1930 in Manitowoc. He was the son of the late William and Wilhelmena Kolwey Wagner. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1948. He then continued his education at the Wentforth Military Academy in Lexington, Mo. for two years. Bill then entered the U.S. Army and served overseas during World War II in Germany. After being honorably discharged, Bill returned to Manitowoc and worked with his father at the Wagner Meat Market on Washington Street of which he later became owner and operator. From 1969-1973 he was employed in the meat department at Stangel's Super Market; from 1973-1982 he was employed at the Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store; and from 1982-1992 he was employed at Brey's Food Market on North Eighth St. In recent years prior to retirement, Bill worked in Reedsville as a meat cutter. On May 24, 1955, Bill married Mary Lou Schuette in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on June 21, 1995. Bill was a member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ, where he had served on the church council as president for several terms along with holding other offices on the council and various organizations within the church. Since 1957, Bill was also a member of the Kiwanis Club evening group, where he had served as president in past years. He is survived by one sister: Virginia Elvia Christman, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, the former Mary Lou Schuette in 1995. Friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., and then at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 10 a.m. The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 628 N. Water St., Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
