Deanie Joe "Bo" Voorhies, 59, Mitchell, passed away at 3:52 p.m. March 29, 2011, at his residence.
Born Dec. 1, 1951, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Tirey and Marjorie (Wagoner) Voorhies. He was to married Dorie Newby.
He was a self employed electrician and plumber.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Gillen Post No. 33 American Legion.
"Bo" was a member of the Fayetteville Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, drag racing, horse racing and bingo.
Surviving are his wife, Dorie Voorhies of Mitchell; daughter, Echo Voorhies of Bedford; stepchildren, Sarah (Chris) Piper of Orleans, Jordan (Chelsa) Beyers of Oolitic, Angela Beyers of English, Waylon Hedge of Mitchell and Daniel York of Mitchell; two grandchildren; six step grandchildren; brothers, John David (Leah) Voorhies, of Mitchell and Denny (LaDonna) Voorhies and Danny (Dianna) Voorhies, all of Bedford; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ron and Helen Newby of Mitchell.
His parents; brother, Donald Voorhies; half brother, Joe Voorhies; and nephew, K.P. Voorhies, preceded him in death.
A celebration of life service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at American Legion Post No. 250 in Mitchell. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. Burial will be at a later date in Silverville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
