Von Spreckelsen Services Here Monday
Funeral services were held here Monday afternoon for August Von Spreckelsen an 83 year old pioneer resident of this community who passed away Friday. Mr. Von Spreckelsen came to Clay Center while a young man and has since made this community his home. He was a highly respected citizen of Clay Center and leaves three daughters and two sons to mourn his passing. The three daughters are Mrs. Glen Slater of Harvard; Mrs. John Strohm of Lincoln; and Mrs. C. J. Briggs of this city; the sons are John and Ernest, both of Clay Center. The service was held Monday from the home of the son, John, with the Rev. Nye O. Bond officiating. Burial was made in the Clay Center cemetery. The obituary will be found in another part of the Sun.

August Von Spreckelsen
August Von Spreckelsen, son of John and Anna Von Spreckelsen was born in Kehbingbruch, Hanover, Germany, November 15, 1862. He departed this life on the morning of February 14, 1947 at Clay Center, Nebraska at the age of 84 years and 3 months.
At the age of 17 he left his home in Germany and immigrated to the United States, settling immediately in Clay County where he farmed for many years, retiring in the Fall of 1925 to a home in Clay Center.
On February 28, 1889 he was united in marriage to Marie Arp who preceded him in death February 12, 1937. To this union were born eight children, three sons and five daughters. Two daughters and one son preceding him in death, Herman who died in infancy, Emma who passed away at the age of 14 years and Mrs. Anna Meyer, who passed away August 26, 1944.
Survivors are Mrs. John Strohm, Lincoln, Nebr., Mrs. Glen Slater, Harvard, Nebr., Mrs. Chester Briggs and John H. and Ernest A. Von Spreckelsen, all of Clay Center; also twelve grandchildren, four great grand daughters and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him greatly.
