Memorial services for Ella Caudle, 90, were held at 10 a.m. February 23, 2013, in the Lamar Room of Kings Manor Methodist Home with the Rev. Jim Bulin officiating. Graveside services followed at West Park Cemetery. Services
were under the direction of Hereford Heritage Funeral Home.
Mrs. Caudle passed away peacefully on February 20, 2013, at King's Manor/Westgate.
Born August 19, 1922, in Dawson County, Tx., to Fritz Carl and Gertrude Ganss Vogler, Ella attended Klondike Schools and worked for a physician in Lamesa and as a switchboard operator at the University of Texas in Austin prior to her marriage to Miles Wesley Caudle. They were the first couple to wed in the small wedding chapel at First Baptist Church, Lamesa, on June 8, 1957, and celebrated 55 years together this past June.
The Caudles lived in Pasco and Spokane, Washington, and in Manhattan, Kansas, before moving to Hereford in 1977, where they farmed southwest of town for over 30 years. Ella and Miles grew a large garden for many years and gave away bushels of fresh produce to friends and neighbors. They also invited little ones from First Baptist Kindergarten and classes from several other schools out to their pumpkin patch each October and let the children pick their own pumpkins.
Ella was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was involved in the Women's Missionary Union, helping to prepare meals for various church functions and for the Baptist Student Union at West Texas A&M University. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Frio Home Extension Club, and had assisted in compiling books for the blind with members of the Lutheran Braille Workers in Lariat.
Her greatest joy was reading, playing games and working puzzles with her children, and later with her grandchildren. She loved to share Bible stories and sing favorite songs with them.
She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers, Ewald Vogler, Lawrence Vogler, Harold Vogler, Carl Vogler, Oscar Vogler and Freddie Vogler.
Survivors include her husband, Miles Caudle of Hereford; one daughter, Linda, and husband, Howard Perry of Hereford; one son, Mike, and wife, Jennifer Caudle of Georgetown, Texas; one granddaughter, Sherilyn Caudle of Lubbock; four grandsons, Miles Perry and wife, Jessica, of Abilene, Texas, Kyle Perry and Jared Perry of Hereford, and Joshua Caudle of Georgetown; two sisters, Anna Rose Standefer of Lamesa and Laverne Burger of Midland; two brothers, Henry Vogler and Rinehard Vogler, both of Lamesa; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to King's Manor Methodist Home, 400 Ranger Dr., Hereford, Tx., 79045 or Samaritan Hospice, 426 Main St., Hereford, Tx., 79045. The family would like to express tremendous thanks to all of the staff members of Westgate/King's Manor and Samaritan Hospice who helped care for Ella.
