Jewel LaVerne Beasley, 75, of McGregor, Texas, passed away, Friday night, Dec. 4, 2009, in Waco. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at First United Methodist Church, 500 S. Madison St., McGregor, under the direction of Cole Funeral Home in McGregor with the Rev. Lianne Turner officiating. Private inurnment will be in Cox Cemetery near Mercury, Texas. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cole Funeral Home.

Jewel LaVerne was born in Winchell, Texas, to the late Luther Barney and Velma (Russell) Vogel. She was reared and educated in Winchell, and was a 1953 graduate of Brooksmith High School in Brooksmith, Texas, where she was a cheerleader and played on the basketball team. She later graduated from Draughon's Business College in Abilene, Texas. On May 5, 1954, she married Jerald Randolph "Jerry" Beasley in Ft. Belvior, Va. During her husband's military career, they lived in California and France. She worked in the insurance industry in San Francisco and at the Austin American Statesman. Longing to return to Texas, she and her family moved to McGregor in 1963. She was a realtor and later was an office administrator for Naler Insurance Company in McGregor. However, her greatest passion was spent as a loving wife, wonderful mother and compassionate caregiver for her family. Laverne was an active member of First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Blanche Turner Circle and served on the bereavement committee. In earlier years, she was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and several bridge clubs. She was currently a member of the Red Hat Club. Throughout her life, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and caring for her family, assisting with meals-on-wheels and traveling extensively.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years on Sept. 17, 2006.

Survivors include son, Jay Beasley and wife, Andrea, of Robinson; daughter, Jill Denman and husband, Paul, of McKinney; grandchildren, Angela Marlin and husband, Jason, Amber Beasley, Jameson Beasley; great-grandchildren, Jack Marlin and Kenzi Marlin; brother, L.N. "Buddy" Vogel and wife, Betty, of Temple; and sister, Sherry Vellie and husband, Johnny, of Harker Heights.
