Ethel Arnetta Hicks Virden, 84, died at 6:35 PM Thursday, Nov. 7, 1996, in Indiana Veterans Home, where she had resided since November 1993. Born Feb. 16, 1912, Ladoga, Montgomery County, she graduated from Crawfordsville High School and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, Lafayette. She married Lawrence W. Virden on Dec. 2, 1950, in Lafayette; he died July 15, 1985.

Mrs. Virden, who had lived at Gary and Crawfordsville before moving to Lafayette in the 1940s, was a licensed practical nurse for 25 years, working at St. Elizabeth Hospital and Indiana Veterans Home. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Surviving are two brothers, Harold Hick of West Lafayette and Jesse Hicks of Monticello; two sisters, Grace (Mrs. James) Taylor of Battle Ground and Donna (Mrs. Don) Brumfield of Oklahoma City, OK. Three brothers and four sisters preceded in death.
