As stated in another column today Llewellyn Howell Vinnedge, aged 62 years, died at the home of his brother, Wm. L. Vinnedge, near Pleasant Run at 9:30 Friday morning, after a four weeks' illness of congestion of the brain which resulted in total paralysis. The funeral will take place from the home wherein he died at 11 o'clock Sunday morning. Interment Greenwood cemetery.
He was born in Butler county, August 14, 1838. His parents, John and Marlilene** Vinnedge settled in this county in the early days of this country and reared a family of tem children, six of whom are living, Mrs. Rosanna Slade, John Albert, Moore P., Thomas K., Wm. L Vinnedge and Mrs. Mary Symmes.
Mr. Vinnedge entered the army at the opening of the war and served as a private in Co. F, 69th O.V.I. until the close.
In 1864 Mr. Vinnedge took as his wife Miss Rebecca Carolina McNill, from this union there resulted three sons; Clifford M., Llewellyn H., and Harlan D., who are living, and one daughter who died in infancy. The wife and mother was laid to rest one year ago. Mr. Vinnedge was a member of the Presbyterian church and always endeavored to live up to the fulfillment of a Christian life. He was a loving father, a kind and indulgent husband and a faithful friend. The passing of two children of the early pioneers of Butler county will recall to many stories of the early days in this part of Ohio. Mr. Lazarus McNill in his young manhood plied a the boat from Old Fort Hamilton to New Orleans carrying the produce of the settlers and returning overland with supplies. Mr. Vinnedge's grandparents were the first couple married in Butler county. His grandfather was a member of Wayne's army. The deceased was a farmer by occupation but for a number of years had lived a retired life.
