Rachel Ridgely was born at noon on 7 February 1715 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, to Hon. Nicholas Greenberry Ridgely and his wife, Sarah Worthington. She married Col. John Vining, a prominent and successful lawyer and landholder, on 20 April 1749. The wedding ceremony was conducted by Rev. Arthur Usher. They had two sons, Benjamin and Nicholas Ridgely Vining. Rachel Ridgely Vining died at 2 p.m. on 6 November 1753, aged 38. Her funeral was conducted by Rev. Hugh Neil and her body was buried under her father's pew at Christ Episcopal Church in Dover, Delaware.
