Investigation continues into fatal accident
May 4, 2007 - 9:44AM
REEVES COUNTY Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Greg Reyero continued his investigation Thursday into a three-vehicle accident Wednesday that killed four people.
According to Reyero's report, about 8:50 a.m. Wednesday, a 2003 Mazda was westbound on Interstate 10, about 14 miles east of Saragosa, and had just passed a 1997 Freightliner tractor-trailer when an eastbound 2006 Chevrolet sports utility vehicle driven by Francis Xavier Fernandez, 45, drifted into the center median.
The SUV and the Mazda collided nearly head-on, then the tractor-trailer collided with the SUV, which continued into the north ditch, rolled over and burst into flames, the report said.
Aide Barrera, 49, Bianca Villa, 29, and Bionsey Villa, 5, all from Fort Stockton, were in the Mazda and were pronounced dead at the scene by Reeves County Justice of the Peace Rosendo Carrasco.
Fernandez, a priest from Upland, Calif., was also pronounced dead at the scene by Carrasco.
Reyero didn't know if Fernandez was wearing his seatbelt, but everyone else involved in the accident had been, the report said.
