Killed When Cars Collide -

A terrible tragedy occurred at the junction of the White Way and the K.N.D. five miles north of Central City, NE. Tuesday at 10:45 A.M.

Rev. Edward Vikman, Swedish Lutheran pastor at Genoa, NE. was driving his Nash sedan south, and was going to Hordville, NE. to attend a missionary convention. In the car with Rev. Vikman were his two small daughters, Ruth and Alice, Mrs. John Matson, Mrs. Nell Cromwell and Margaret Burke, a girl about five years old, all from Genoa, NE.

As they approached the intersection from the north, a large Studebaker on the White Way, driven by Mrs. Prasse, of Loup City, came from the east. Mrs. Prasse's daughter, Bertha, aged sixteen, was with her.

Both drivers were going quite fast, and each seemed to think the other would slow up, but neither did until they were quite close together; then both slowed up. When the drivers saw that the other had slowed up, each speeded up, and they collided.

Rev. Vickman was thrown from his car and was killed instantly. Both Mrs. Matson and Mrs. Cromwell were badly hurt. Margaret Burke suffered a badly fractured skull, and all the other occupants of both cars were badly bruised.

Had it not been for the prompt assistance of the filling station operator, every person in the wreck would have perished in the flames, as both cars burned, and the victims were not able to extricate themselves from the wreckage.

Funeral services will be held at Genoa for Rev. Vikman, and he will be buried at Holdrege by the side of his wife, who died about a year ago.
