Eugenio Vigil, passed away on October 1, 2000, after an extended illness. Eugenio was born on December 27, 1905. Eugenio passed away with dignity at his home in Cuba, NM surrounded by his family and private care-giver, Helena Fuentes. Eugenio was preceded in death by a son, Marcos Vigil, a daughter, Arrora Goodwin, six brothers and one sister. Eugenio is survived by Mary Vigil, his wife of 61 years, four daughters, Gloria Freelove, Betty Sandoval and her husband, Henry, Percilla Ramirez and her husband, Adonias and Ida Otis and her husband, Jeff and one son, Eugene Vigil and his wife, Linda, all of New Mexico, 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Eugenio is also survived by one brother, Erminio Vigil and two sisters, Ignacita Trujillo and Pablita Cordova. During World War II, he worked in Flagstaff, AZ (Belmont) for the Department of Defense. When he returned to Cuba, he was a self employed mechanic. Shortly thereafter, he worked of the United States Government as an auto mechanic instructor the war veterans. Eugenio worked in his automotive shop as a mechanic until the age of 91. Eugenio was active in the Democratic Party and provided many services in his community. Eugenio was also an active member of the Catholic Church his entire life. As patriarch of the family, his lifetime of love and achievement will not be forgotten. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated this morning at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cuba, NM. Interment will follow at Cuba Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rodney Sandoval, Rhonda Sandoval, Maros Ramirez, Robert Casaus, Mary Vigil and Gina Salazar-Sharma. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ediwn Ramirez, Helena Rudolph, Dinah Ortiz, Maryah Vigil, Thomas Salazar, Leo Chavez and Fidencio Olivas.
