Obituary February 19, 1959, of Anastacita Chavez, Archuleta, former resident, dies at home in Durango.

Mrs. Anastacita Vigil De Chavez y Archuleta, 75 former resident of Pagosa Springs, passed away on Friday, Feb. 13, 1959 at her home in Durango. She had been in ill health for several years of a heart aliment but her death came quite unexpectedly of a sudden stroke.

Anastacita Vigil was born Oct. 7, 1883 in San Pablo, Colo., the only daughter of Manuel and Candelarita Vigil. When she was quite young the family moved to Rosa, N.M., where she grew to young womanhood and where she met and married Antonio Maria Chavez in 1905. They spent their married life in the Arboles-Pagosa Springs area until his death in 1944.

their union was blessed with 16 children, nine of whom are still living.

In 1948 she was married to Macedonio Archuleta of Durango, where they had made their home.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Candelarita Maestas of Durango, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday; four sons, Joe B. Chavez of Dragerton, Utah; Delfin M. and John B. Chavez of Pagosa Springs, Ted A. of Durango; five daughters, Mrs. Lueto Maes of Del Norte; Mrs. Jose R. Maestas of Weiser, Idaho; Mrs. Ruth Archuleta of Durango; Mrs. Albert Cruz of Pueblo; Mrs. Press Vialpando of Durango; a foster daughter, Mrs. Benito Martinez of Hotchkiss. Five step sons and one stepdaughter; sixty grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday from the Parklawn Mortuary Chapel in Durango with the Rev. Paul Perea officiating. The body was brought to Pagosa Springs for grave side services and burial in Hilltop cemetery that same day.

Mrs. Archuleta was a wonderful wife, mother and neighbor. She raised her children to be devout Christians and her kindness toward them.
