PEKIN - William J. "Bill" Velpel, 85, of Pekin, formerly of Peoria, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, at Pekin Hospital.
He was born to William C. and Gertrude Koegle Velpel on Jan. 30, 1922, in Peoria and married his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Anne "Betty" Peterson, on June 26, 1944, in Peoria.
She survives, along with a son, Michael "Mike" (Jill) of Pekin; a brother, Robert "Bob" of Peoria; grandchildren, Kyle and Michaela; nieces, Mary Beth McAvoy of Dunlap and Kathleen Knell of Peoria; and nephew, John Velpel of Tennessee.
He is preceded in Heaven by his parents; brother, Raymond "Ray"; and little sister, Geraldine.
Bill served in the Army Air Forces during World War II and was the manager for Model Wallpaper and Paint in Sheridan Village for 33 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.
Cremation has been accorded, and burial of cremains will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, in St. Joseph Cemetery in Peoria. Father Timothy Nolan will officiate. A memorial Mass will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Abts Mortuary.
