In 1863, her family moved to Palo Pinto County, Texas. Their stone home was used as a fort during the frontier period. Fannie Davis Beck wrote the book, On the Texas Frontier in 1937 detailing her life on the frontier. Without a formal education, she was home-schooled by her father, William Veale who was a teacher, lawyer, judge and Texas legislator.

Fannie Veale married Henry Harrison Beck on 3 March 1885 at Palo Pinto, Texas. The couple moved to Bosque County and by 1888 moved to Rockport. In 1903, they moved to Corsicana before moving in 1904 to Morning Sun, Iowa, Henry's childhood home. There were 11 children born to this union.
