Dawn Veal Reid
(December 15, 1945 - July 6, 2010)
Mrs. Dawn Veal Reid, 64, of Waycross died early Tuesday morning at Satilla Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born in Americus, Georgia to the late E. C. "Doc" Veal and Johanna B. Veal. Mrs. Reid had made Waycross her home since 1967. She was a graduate of Americus High School and the University of Georgia. At the University of Georgia she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Arts in Home Economics and Textiles. She moved to Waycross and began work as a County Extension Agent with the Ware County 4-H Program. She then began a career with Zachary's Furniture Company as an interior decorator. After the closing of Zachary's she and a business associate began their own interior design business known as Tradition's By Zachary. For the past twelve years, Mrs. Reid has worked as an interior decorator for Waycross Paint and Tile.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Waycross where she served on the Administrative Council and other various committees. She will forever be remembered as a loving mother, who was devoted to her children.
Mrs. Reid is survived by her husband, K.E. "Pat" Reid of Waycross, a daughter, Christa McDonald and her husband Craig of Blackshear, a son, Brent Reid of Blackshear, her grandchildren, Grant McDonald, Patrick McDonald both of Blackshear, a sister, Betty Dixon and her husband Lamar of Pensacola, Florida, two nieces, Virginia Dixon of Los Angeles, California, Dawn Wood and her husband Brian of Escondido, California, two nephews, Craig Dixon of Ventura, California, Olan L. Dixon, IV, of Pensacola, Florida and numerous other relatives.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday at the First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m., at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 410 Williams Street, Waycross, Georgia 31501, or to the Southeast Cancer Unit, Inc., 401 Pendleton Street, Waycross, Georgia 31501.
