Neeley Reed "Jack" Vaught Jr. died June 19, 2005 in Beeville, Texas.
Born June 12, 1923 in Burkburnett, Texas, and graduated BHS 1941. In WWII Jack served in the US Army 82nd Squadron, Aircraft Maintenance in Dutch East Indies and Philippine Islands.
He spent 19 years in the Army's Active Reserve, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel. He received a Bachelor and Masters Degree of Science Degree from University of North Texas, a member of Pi Phi Pi Fraternity. In 1947 he was awarded the American Red Cross of Merit for saving a fellow student's life.
He earned a Masters Degree in Engineering from Texas Tech University, and was a member of Alpha Pi Mu Industrial Engineering Honor Society.
While Dean of Students at Odessa Jr. College he was invited to join Texas Business & Engineering People to People Delegation and visited six countries in Europe. His career as educator provided the opportunity to help and guide young students attain the best education possible at institutions like Odessa Junior College, Brazosport, Orange Grove, and Bee County College.
In retirement the thrill of flying his own airplane was his dream. He was a self taught stunt flyer, participating in fly-ins and air shows around the state in his red Pitts Special SIC. He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Jacqueline Vaught Brogan, Professor of English at Notre Dame University, and grandson Evan Brogan of Granger Indiana, granddaughter Jessica Brogan of Dallas Texas. A sister Virginia Randall of Houston and a favorite cousin, Atty Dick Saxe of Midland, as well as other cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Kay Bowman of Beeville, a companion and friend of many years, for her caring, dedication, and loving care.
Military services will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, in San Antonio Texas, on July 5th, 2005 at 2:30 pm. A memorial Service will be held in Burkburnett, date undecided.
