Barbara Alicea, 76, of Crown Point, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the University of Chicago Hospitals.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Flor Alicea; five sons: Ruben (Carmen), Joseph (Diana), Charles, David (Lori) and Michael (Adriana) Alicea; eight grandchildren; siblings: Israel and Martha Vasquez; and many nephews, nieces, family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Nathan; and sister, Elizabeth Vasquez.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at the Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal Emanuel Church, 138th and Elm St., East Chicago, IN with Rev. Gilberto Novales officiating. At rest Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday at the church from 4:00-7:00 p.m. A service will follow at 7:00 p.m.
Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved baking and cooking for her family and friends. She was a happy person, always a smile and always helping those in need. Barbara was a member of Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal Emanuel Church, a member of the Women's group, and the church drummer for more than four decades. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
