Mr. James Leon Varnadore, 74 of Blackshear, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Appling Health Systems in Baxley.

Born on July 18, 1938, in Waycross, Georgia, he had lived in Blackshear and Homerville for many years. Mr. Varnadore had served in the US Navy and was of the Church of God faith. He loved art and writing poetry and authored the book, "For God and Country Music", a book of poetry.

He was a son of the late Emerald Percy & Ruby Estell Brown Varnadore. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Azalee Calhoun.

Survivors included four sisters, Frances (Grady) Blanchett of Blackshear, Joyce (Russ) Friderich of Bloomington, IL, Teresa Varnadore of Waycross and Loretta (Jerry) Mercer of Waycross; three brothers, Clinton (Mary) Varnadore and Jerald Varnadore all of Waycross and Bill (Sharon) Varnadore of Port Orange, FL; and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Living River Church of God, 5603 S. Highway 121, Blackshear, GA 31516.

Visitation for Mr. Varnadore will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Funeral services for Mr. Varnadore will be held at 3:00 o'clock Monday afternoon, March 18, 2013 at the Pearson-Dial Chapel.

Interment will be in the Oakland cemetery.
