Ruth E. Schneider
1929 - October 17, 2012
Ruth E. Schneider, 83, of Lake Ariel, passed away at home on Wednesday surrounded by family and friends.
She put up a courageous battle and she was by far the bravest lady in fighting her disease.
Her husband of 61 years is Doug Schneider.
Born in Narrowsburg, NY, daughter of the late Charles and Ella VanSickle, she graduated from Waymart High School and had worked in the Western Wayne School District for many years before her retirement.
Also surviving are a daughter Diane of Lake Ariel; a brother Walter Testa and his wife Janet of Lake Ariel and their daughter Janell Yzeik and her husband John of Waymart; four adopted grandchildren Jeremy and Joshua Yzeik, Lindsay Dapsis and C.J. Walker (all that she loved dearly).
She was so proud of them and enjoyed Joshua's daily phone calls and his graduation, Jeremy's soccer games, Lindsay's wedding and C.J. in his uniform. She is also survived by a brother-in-law Paul Howe and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters Cora Shuman and Lee Howe and brothers Dave Tyler, Richard Tyler, and Luther VanSickle.
She always put other people first, even through her sickness. She never once complained through her illness and always had her sense of humor.
She was our hero and we will miss her so much. We will take comfort in knowing she is in heaven now and will always watch over us.
Many thanks to her doctors: Dr. Thomas and Matt, Dr. Maguir, Collette, Tina, Dr. Kurtzer and Mary and all the nurses of Commonwealth Home Health Hospice (nurses, nurses aides, clergy and social workers for all the loving care). A big thanks to all her family and friends especially everyone that helped her when she needed help because she would never ask.
Her friends Vicki, her niece Lois, Janell, John, Walter, Janet, Cindy, Joanie, Karen, Lindsay, Jeri, and everyone else that cared for her.
Thanks to Pastor Rushik and all her friends at the Free Methodist Church. Thanks for her cards, flowers, prayers, and thoughts. She had so many friends.
She enjoyed shopping, eating out, going to the casino and spending time with her family and friends. She also truly loved her dog, Princess, which she spoiled rotten. Mom, whenever I see a red cardinal, I will think of you. Rest in Peace my darling mother and I will remember to drive carefully.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the South Canaan Free Methodist Church 19 St. Tikhon's Rd. S. Canaan, PA.
Friends may call Friday from 4 -7 p.m. in the James Wilson. Funeral Home, 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.
