Elmeta R. Carlile, 71, of South 8th St., Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Lubbock Heart Hospital, Lubbock, Texas. Elmeta R. Carlile was born September 17, 1940, in Littlefield, Texas, to John W. and Marie (Johnson) Vandeventer. Elmeta graduated high school in Morton, Texas. Elmeta attended beauty school in Hobbs where she met Billy Carlile. They were married and made their home in Hobbs. The family moved to Carlsbad in 1983. Elmeta was a loving sister, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Elmeta was a terrific cook. Elmeta loved to garden and was a master of crossword puzzles. Elmeta was the glue that kept the family taken care of. Elmeta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy Carlile; and brother, Robert Vandeventer. Survivors are her brother, Johnny V. Vandeventer and his wife, Sue of Carlsbad, NM; children, Melissa Metcalf of Carlsbad, NM, Randahl Mills of Carlsbad, NM, Shannon Fannin and JR Goins of Carlsbad, NM; ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three nieces, four great-nieces, four great-nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, January 5, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, January 6, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dennis W. McKinley officiating. Interment will follow in Division O of the Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Pallbearers will be Johnny Vandeventer, Randahl Mills, Troy Metcalf, Ricky Grant, JR Goins, Billy Cawley and Radell Box.
